Austria: Insufficient integration of migrant workers, says OECD

Austria has a higher share of immigrants in the total working-age population (17 %) than many other member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD). At the same time, the framework for integration policy is less developed in Austria than in a number of other OECD countries. These are the key findings of a new OECD study on the labour market integration of immigrants in Austria.

Historically, immigrant integration has focused on immigrants—on changing immigrant behavior to facilitate their incorporation into the host society by encouraging language learning or naturalization, for example.
