Undocumented Migrants

Greece: The vindication of the 300 migrants hunger strikers is a hope for the whole society

Today’s government’s decision to meet part of the demands of the 300 migrants on hunger strike proves that the only lost struggle is the one that is not led. It also showed to all the working people that the government of the E.U., I.M.F. and European Bank Memorandum is not invincible. The rigid militant spirit and broad social solidarity can bring tangible results.

Undocumented Immigrants Stand Up to Chipotle

Last month six hundred workers at the Chipotle fast food chain were fired in Minnesota.

Their crime?  Working.

In the last two years, thousands of others have been fired for the same offense—1800 young women at Los Angeles sewing machines, 500 apple pickers in eastern Washington, hundreds of janitors in Minnesota and California.  They're all victims of the administration's "softer" immigration enforcement strategy.

Surviving Mexico's migrant trail

To protect the undocumented migrants in his flock, Father Alejandro Solalinde heads for the freight train tracks, flanked by two bodyguards toting automatic assault rifles.

This is how god's work must be done in southern Mexico, where human traffickers, organ thieves, and drug gangs prowl trainyards, looking for travelling migrants to capture, rape, rob or harass.

As night falls, the freight train - known as la bestia (or "the beast") - rolls by with dozens of people, mostly from Central America, waving as they ride on top of boxcars.

Canada: Migrant workers fear repercussions, seek protection

In a little office just off the main drag in this small southern Ontario town, a handful of Mexican workers sit around and drink coffee. They would rather be digging and grading strawberry plants, the jobs they were hired for, but the farmer who hired them has left the country without paying them the thousands of dollars they're owed.
