UN official denounces mistreatment of migrants and urges respect for their rights

Migrants continue to endure multiple forms of discrimination, exploitation and other violations of human rights, a senior United Nations official has said, calling for their protection and social inclusion in communities where they live.

The member States of the ILO meet annually at the International Labour Conference, held in Geneva, Switzerland. Each member State is represented by a delegation consisting of two government delegates, an employer delegate, a worker delegate and their respective advisers.

Arizona: UN experts warn against “a disturbing legal pattern hostile to ethnic minorities and immigrants”

GENEVA (10 May 2010) – A group of UN human rights experts* expressed on Tuesday serious concern over laws recently enacted by the state of Arizona, United States of America, that affect minorities, indigenous people and immigrants and potentially subject them to discriminatory treatment.

USA: Report on Migrant Labour

The attached report was submitted to the OHCHR by a group of US-based organisations for the Universal Period Review (UPR) of the USA in December 2010.
