ITUC Resolution on Migrant Workers

At its second World Congress in Vancouver, the International Trade Union Confederation adopted a resolution on migrant workers in which it emphasises that migrant workers, regardless of their status must enjoy equal treatment under labour legislation and full respect of their fundamental rights.

Sign the Petition calling upon EU Member States to Ratify the Migrant Workers Convention

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary year of the UN Migrant Workers Convention, D18 together with the European Platform for Migrant Workers Rights, launches the petition campaign: “Europe it’s Time to Ratify the Migrant Workers Convention,” demanding the European Union to live up to its core values, all 27 Member States of the EU are asked to ratify this core international human rights instrument.

Message of support from Thomas Hammarberg, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary year of the UN Migrant Workers Convention, Council of Europe Commissioner Hammarberg hopes that member states of the European Union will ratify the  Convention and demonstrate once again their genuine commitment to human rights.

Aims of the EPMWR

The Platform brings together civil society organisations with the aim to:

  • advocate a better promotion and protection of the human rights of all migrant workers and members of their families;
  • share information on and harmonize whenever possible national-level campaigns and activities across Europe in favour of the UN Migrant Workers’ Convention;
  • work together at the national and EU-level for the ratification of the UN Migrant Workers’ Convention by one or more EU member states.

December 18 is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Financial support for operational costs is provided by Oxfam-Novib (Netherlands). Other funders may occasionally support special activities.
