CMW invites external stakeholders to provide comments on draft general comment No. 2

At its 17th session, the Committee held a discussion on its draft general comment No. 2 on the rights of migrant workers in an irregular situation and members of their families, and decided to post it on the Committee’s website so as to enable external stakeholders to submit comments on the draft.

Philippines urges states to ratify UN conventions on trafficking victims, migrant workers

The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva called on States to ratify international instruments against human trafficking and other conventions to protect the rights of migrant and domestic workers during the recent 14th session of the Human Rights Council’s Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) held in Geneva from October 22 to November 5.

Le Comité pour la protection des droits de tous les travailleurs migrants et des membres de leur famille tiendra sa dix-septième session au Palais Wilson, à Genève, du 10 au 14 septembre 2012.  Au cours de cette session, le Comité doit examiner les rapports initiaux du Rwanda et de la Bosnie-Herzégovine sur les mesures prises par ces deux pays pour donner effet à la Convention internationale sur la protection des droits de tous les travailleurs migrants et des membres de leur famille – à laquelle ils sont parties.  

CMW to hold 17th session In Geneva

The seventeenth session of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families will be held at the Palais Wilson in Geneva from 10 to 14 September 2012 during which it will review the implementation by Rwanda and Bosnia and Herzegovina of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, and make recommendations to these countries.

WCC consultation discusses issues of migrant workers in Gulf

An international consultation on “Ecumenical Advocacy for the Protection of the Human Rights of Migrant Workers in the Arabian Gulf Region” is currently taking place from 29 April to 2 May at the Santhigiri Ashram in Kerala, India. The consultation was organized by the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA) of the World Council of Churches (WCC).

Le Comité pour la protection des droits de tous les travailleurs migrants et des membres de leur famille a conclu, aujourd'hui, les travaux de sa seizième session, en présentant ses observations finales sur les mesures prises en application de la Convention internationale sur la protection des droits de tous les travailleurs migrants et des membres de leur famille par le Paraguay et le Tadjikistan, dont les rapports initiaux ont été examinés au cours de cette session.

CMW adopts Concluding Observations and Recommendations on Reports of Paraguay and Tajikistan

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families today concluded its sixteenth session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the initial reports of Paraguay and Tajikistan.

CMW considers report of Paraguay

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families today completed its consideration of the initial report of Paraguay on its implementation of the provisions of the International Convention on the Protection of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families. 

UN Convention on workers could strengthen RI position

Ratifying the United Nations (UN) Convention on International Migrant Workers will put Indonesia in a much stronger position when it comes to negotiating agreements to protect and promote the rights of its migrant workers in other countries, an activist says.

Migrant Care executive director Anis Hidayah said that other countries that had ratified the convention, adopted by the UN in 1990, had succeeded in protecting the rights of their workers and 
families.
