Lungile Ndaki, « Il est impossible d’empêcher les gens de bouger »

Dans le monde en développement, des dizaines de milliers de travailleurs sanitaires ont quitté leur pays, à la recherche de meilleures opportunités à l’étranger. Lungile Ndaki, 58 ans, a fait sa formation d’infirmière en Afrique du Sud ; mais il y a huit ans, elle est partie au Royaume-Uni pour prendre un poste dans un hôpital privé de Bath. Elle a parlé à IRIN au téléphone des raisons qui l’ont poussée à prendre cette décision et expliqué pourquoi elle envisage aujourd’hui de rentrer dans son pays.

The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada) and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) – two of Canada's leading migrant worker advocacy organizations – are applauding and defending the findings of two new reports that make a direct link between worker illness and the shortcomings of Canada's migrant worker system.

Despite being led by two separate teams of distinguished doctors and researchers, the findings of the reports are being attacked by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).

South Korea: Disabled migrant workers unprotected

A 34-year-old man from Sri Lanka had his right leg amputated in an accident while working at a waste-disposal company in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, in December 2009.

He found the situation unbearable, but decided to remain here because he had to earn money to support his family in his country. He thought it would be easier to get a job here than back in his country with the disability.
