Civil Society Urges Governments to Fill Leadership Gaps in Migration

The Civil Society Days of the Global Forum on Migration and Development concluded with high energy at the “common space” between civil society and governments on the morning of December 1st. After two days of working sessions that built upon the recommendations of past GFMDs and brought to light new concerns, civil society presented a statement to governments calling for more engagement and leadership to combat xenophobia and promote rights-based migration policies.

Opening of the Civil Society Days – what difference will they make?

The opening ceremony of the Civil Society Days (CSD) of the 5th GFMD has just come to a close. 186 civil society delegates, among them 73 migrants, will debate for two and a half days among themselves and with government representatives about issues like Migrant Workers’ Families, the “Business” of irregular migration, circular migration and the diaspora as a potential actor of development.

Statement by UFDWR for the GFMD in Geneva

Attached is the statement of the United for Foreign Domestic Workers' Rights on the 5th Global Forum on Migration and Development happening end of this week in Geneva, Switzerland. UFDWR is a coalition of regional and national organizations that work for the protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of foreign domestic workers.

Swiss groups join international meeting to prepare for this year's GFMD in Geneva

Some 100 participants from Swiss civil society organizations, international non-government and labour groups, international agencies, governments and academia are gathering for a two-day “joint reflection” on issues of migration and development, in the lead-up to the annual Global Forum on Migration Development (GFMD) that the government of Switzerland is organizing in Geneva at yearend.

December 18 is an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Financial support for operational costs and projects are occasionally provided by a range of funders.
