Migration and the Gulf

This collection of essays is the first of three volumes devoted to Migration and the Arab World. The 19 authors whose essays appear in this first volume address several salient questions: What are the sizes and characteristics of the non-national workforces of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries? Which “push” and “pull” factors have driven and continue to drive this phenomenon? What effects has labor migration had on the sending and receiving countries, and on the migrants themselves?

A Star investigation has found that the recession, employer abuse and poor monitoring is leaving more and more of these workers vulnerable and without legal employment.

CANADA: J4MW condemns federal double speak on temporary foreign workers

Justicia for Migrant Workers strongly condemns the proposed regulations introduced by the Federal Conservatives to ‘protect’ temporary foreign workers. These regulations continue the mean spirited approach of persecuting workers rather than addressing the structural mechanisms that deny migrant workers the ability to exert rights.
