Rallies to mark migrants day in Jakarta

Jakarta Traffic Police reported that on Thursday Jakarta would host 11 rallies, including those held to commemorate the International Migrants Day, which fall on Dec. 18, issuing warning of possible traffic congestion near the rally sites.

The police said in their website that a group calling themselves Indonesian Migrant Labor Defender Team would held a rally at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Jl. HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta around 8:30 a.m..

Another rally would be held by an alliance of non-governmental organization, which consist of , among others, Migrant Care, Workers Unions Association, Indonesian Migrant Labor Union, Indonesian Woman Association for Justice and the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH).

International Migrants Day was proclaimed in 2000 by he General Assembly, after adopting the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

Police said that other rallies would be held at the Chinese Embassy in Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta; Vice Presidential Palace in Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan and Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta; and Religious Affairs Agency on Jl. Ahmad Yani in East Jakarta.
